Nice enough park for the desert, but we really didn't care for the sites being jammed so closely together. You won't have a prayer of putting an awning out, but then again since Winnemucca is always windy, you probably won't want to put it out anyway. There is a little grass down each side of the park, but the RV sites are all just a gravel parking lot down the center. The people are extremely nice and helpful, and the pool is lovely, so that helps. A good place to stop, but not a fancy resort.

We were very disappointed with this RV park. Even with a Good Sam 10% discount, we were charged $40.15 for a one-night stay, which we thought was exorbitantly expensive for this area and for the amenities offered. This is not a fancy resort: no pool or hot tub, just bathrooms and showers. We chose it because it advertised wi-fi, but we couldn't get a signal from our site. Judging from the location of the wi-fi antenna, the signal is available to only about 10 sites. Sites were level, but small -- just wide enough for the tires of the motor home with nothing to spare. There was a 4' strip of grass between us and the road through the park -- just wide enough to park a picnic table, but not wide enough to fully extend our awning. Park is located between a highway and a set of high-use railroad tracks. You can barely glimpse the Columbia River through the trees if you walk down to the southern end of the park. If you take the bridge from the Oregon side, be prepared for the tiniest bridge you've ever seen -- with me sticking my head out the coach window to get every inch to the right that we could, an approaching 18-wheeler's mirror missed our mirror by, literally, 2". A truly harrowing experience!!

A very nice little park just off Highway 93, with easy access. The pull-through sites are large and level. The area is very quiet and peaceful. It is not a fancy resort, but a great place for an overnight, or to stop and see the area. The staff is very nice and helpful. We'll stop in again any time we're headed into Idaho.

A lovely little oasis in the sage and pucker brush of eastern Oregon, but their power is very poor. We called ahead for a 50-amp site for a 40 ft. motor home, and were told, "No problem." When we arrived, however, were were told that they don't have 50-amp sites. We wanted 50-amps because it was the middle of a record breaking heat wave, and the misinformation was very disappointing. We have a power monitor, and the power kept fluctuating wildly, and our monitor kept turning our power off so that it couldn't do damage to anything in our coach. Very frustrating. Sites are on grass under numerous shade trees, but are extremely unlevel. Probably a nice little place, but don't go there if it's over 100 degrees and you want to use your air conditioner.

We had been here before, and were quite shocked when we pulled in to see that all the grass in the park has been allowed to die. Instead of a lovely green campground, we pulled into an asphalt site surrounded by dry, dead grass. Very disappointing, and odd since we're told there has been no drought here. RV sites in the east campground are large and level, but the dead grass and dying trees give the whole park a dilapidated, run-down appearance. Too bad.

This is a beautiful, well planned RV park. Sites are very large, level concrete pads separated by large grassy strips, about the largest grassy separation strips I've ever seen. Shade trees are planted and growing rapidly. Each site has cable TV and wi-fi is accessible throughout the park. Staff is very friendly and helpful, all streets are wide, level and nicely paved. The only reason I didn't give this park a big 10 is because they don't have a pool. Other than that, this would be a tough park to beat.

Terrific people, great RV park. Large level sites on gravel, between lush grass strips and large shade trees. Strong power supply, great pool. Very quiet, yet only a few hundred yards from the highway. Nightly 50-cents-per-scoop ice cream. Again, the family running the park really do seem to want to do anything they can to make sure your stay is enjoyable. We'll definitely be going back to this delightful spot. I didn't give it a 10 only because the interior roads aren't yet paved.

This park is pretty much filled with full-time residents, and many of those full time residents have all kinds of junk surrounding their sites. Sites are gravel on dirt with a few shade trees, and one patch of grass behind the store. Wi-fi apparently reaches only a few of the total sites, and none of those sites are available for people who just want to stay a night or two. The lake is pretty and the noise from the nearby freeway is minimal. The people in the office are very nice, and the laundry facility appeared to be very clean.

Nicer older park, right off Interstate 5. The people there could not have been nicer. We called when we were about 15 minutes away to make sure they had space, and the owner was just about to leave. It was about 6:00 pm, but she offered to wait for us, and happily did so. We had a large level pull-through site so we didn't have to unhook our tow vehicle, with good hook-ups including cable and wi-fi. Yes, there is freeway noise, but we didn't really hear it after a few minutes, and it definitely didn't interfere with a good night's sleep. This is not a fancy resort, but is a very nice stopping spot along the I-5 corridor. We'll definitely be stopping in again. (We also called another RV park within a mile or so of this one, and the lady on the phone there was so rude and unpleasant that I just hung up and called Fawndale Oaks instead. And I'm very glad I did!) Sometimes the people can make or break a place!

If you're looking for a fancy-schmancy RV resort, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a nice place to rest along Interstate 5, you could do a lot worse than this RV park. It has very easy ingress/egress to Interstate 5, with a convenient gas station/truck stop right at the exit, and a pretty nice restaurant within a block or so. It's right behind a motel (you check in via the motel reception desk). The people at check-in were very nice, and very helpful. Pull-through sites easily accommodated our 40' motor home without having to unhook our tow vehicle. Very nicely maintained grassy areas between sites. All hookups worked well, including wi-fi. Sites are just wide enough to put your awning out without hitting your neighbor, but there wasn't a ton of room to spare. There was some highway noise from I-5, but it sure didn't keep us awake -- it became more like white noise for us. We will definitely stay here again in our travels up and down I-5, and won't hesitate to recommend it to friends for a good overnight spot.

This is a little, older campground that was recently taken back over by the original owners. It had been let go in a big way, and the original owners are trying to get it back into shape. The owners are very sweet and helpful, and could not have been nicer. We've stayed in several RV places up and down the I-5 corridor over the years, and this one was by far the nicest, and the most quiet. Very peaceful setting, large level gravel sites (we didn't have to unhook our tow vehicle) with good hook-ups). It's located about a mile or more off I-5, on the west side of the Highway 33/152 exit. Easy I-5 access, and right down the road from several gas stations and restaurants, which is always good on this isolated stretch of I-5. Very peaceful and pleasant. It would be a great spot for a get-together or rally, as they have a very nice covered patio area (with barbecue) outside a large meeting room. An altogether pleasant experience, and we'll definitely be back. They did cancel their Passport America membership, but at $24 we couldn't complain!

This beautiful resort has everything -- but is about the noisiest place we have ever stayed. The amenities are terrific -- beautiful large, level concrete sites with well maintained grassy areas between each site. The trees in the landscaping are brand new, but will be quite nice when they grow a bit. Roads are beautifully paved, and wide enough for the biggest big rig. Big pool and spa, indoor meeting rooms, small store, close to stores and restaurants. But it's also right next to Interstate 5. We had to speak very loudly to each other at any time we were outside during daylight hours to be heard over the incessant highway noise. And as an added benefit, right across the river are apparently some railroad tracks, as we were awakened throughout the night by no less than 5 trains. There was a break in the highway noise about 3:00 am, but the trains continued all night. It's really unfortunate that such a lovely resort was so poorly placed. And since the I-5 bridge over the river is elevated, there is absolutely no way this lovely resort could build a sound barrier tall enough to block out the highway din. We are not light sleepers, but the constant noise at this resort will keep us from returning. Too bad.

Do NOT stop here if you want a reasonable overnight accommodation. We were charged $33.50 for a water/electric only hook-up on an uneven grass site. The site did have a picnic table, but the fire ring was filled with partially burned trash. Those were the ONLY amenities. Our site had no cable, and could not pick up WiFi. This is the only campground we've EVER seen that wants to charge for use of the dump site AFTER you've already paid to stay there. The dump site is padlocked, and they want ANOTHER $10 for the privilege of using it. We've NEVER seen another park pull this one, in any of the lower 48 states. Of course, we could have paid $43 for a full hook-up site, but we found that rate to be exorbitant. It's not a fancy resort, and charging those rates struck as ridiculous. The full hook-up sites are all jammed together with barely room to put out the awning. We felt totally ripped off, and will, obviously, never stay here again.

We've traveled up and down the I-5 corridor many, many times, and this is by far the nicest overnight park we've found in the area. It's got trees and shade, but sites are fairly close together. There's plenty of room for slides and awnings, but there is probably only 8 feet or so between sites. Sites were fairly level, and internal roads were nice. We heard almost no noise from the freeway, a nice change from other campgrounds along the way. There did appear to be a few permanent residents, but their sites were well maintained. One word of caution: Do not buy propane from this campground unless you want to pay $4.50 per gallon. We stupidly did not check the price before having our propane tank filled, and were floored at the price. Find propane elsewhere! Or do as we did, and just gulp loudly at the bill, and move on down the road.

Good place for a peaceful overnight. Staff is very helpful and accommodating. Sites are level, though a bit close together if the park is full. It wasn't close to full when we were there, and they told us to just pick whatever pull-through site we wanted. There are several back-in sites, also. There appear to be numerous full-time rigs here, but most were fairly well kept. Power was good, as was water and water pressure. The campground is just outside the small town of Salina, but we found a good grocery store and easy access gas/diesel station with no problem. We stayed here a few years ago, and found it virtually unchanged this time.

If you're coming to this area to see Niagara Falls, and want the closest, most convenient campground from which to do so, then this is the place for you. If, however, you're looking for a wonderfully pleasant camping experience, go elsewhere. For a place like Niagara Falls, with a large tourist draw, this is a perfectly acceptable place to stay a couple nights, and see the sights. Pull-through sites are available, and that's about the best thing one can say about any of the sites. Sites are very close together, in most cases with not enough room to extend awnings. The area is fairly noisy. Office staff are abrupt and rude, and act as though you're annoying them when you check in. Luckily, there's a tour operator's office right next door, because you'd be hard pressed to get any information from the campground office staff. Again, if you want to camp and swim and have campfires and such, go someplace else. But if you want to park your rig and go see Niagara Falls, then this place is fine.

We found this to be a wonderful spot, and wished we'd found it sooner so we could have stayed longer than two nights. We saw no long list of rules, other than the normal rules of controlling and picking up after your children and dogs, observing quiet times, etc. (And frankly, if people object to those rules, we don't want to be camped anywhere near them!) Owners are delightful -- friendly and helpful. Sites were very large, and ours was level. Interior roads are a bit rough, but not a problem if you go slowly. And we'll gladly take the rough road again to experience the peace and quiet of this lovely campground.

This park is an indication that Passport America apparently doesn't look at some of the parks it accepts as members. We paid for full hookups for 2 nights, but left after 1. Interior roads are dreadful -- we should have known by the size of the potholes we encountered in the 100 ft. between the road and the office. The lady in the office was very friendly and as helpful as she could be. That was the end of the pleasant part of our stay. The "full hookup site" we paid for required 50' of water hose AND electric cord to reach the outlets. (That's fifty feet of hose and cord!) Site was a bit of an afterthought at the front of the park, along with a few others that appeared to have been slapped in to accommodate us folks too dumb to know better. There is no antenna TV reception, no way to get satellite reception due to the thick trees, and no radio reception here. (There is possibly one site at the far edge of the afterthought section that MIGHT allow satellite reception.) It's quite a distance to any appreciable town, also. We drove through the rest of the campground, and as has been previously noted, it's mostly people who live there full time, some in some pretty raggedy looking trailers, though we saw two quite nice ones. Suffice it to say, we won't be back!

A lovely quiet campground around a small private lake. Sites are large enough, grassy sites with some large shade trees, but we didn't see any site that came very close to being level, including ours. We recommend that you go to their website, and REALLY read through all the rules and restrictions before coming here -- and there are a LOT of rules and restrictions. The owners seemed very nice and very helpful, but in our humble opinion, they're way too long on rules. If you come to this campground in the dead of summer you must pay for any visitors, and they must leave the campground by 7:30 pm. We won't be coming back, and the friends we drove cross country to visit won't be recommending the campground to anyone, either. Oh well.

One of the worst campgrounds we've been in. Lots of signs and ads make you think you'll be pulling into a fairly decent place. We arrived too late in the day to go elsewhere (and there really IS no place else in Gillette, except the Cam-Plex place that's full of permanent residents), and were surprised to find a very dirty, run-down place filled with permanent placement trailers surrounded by junk, trash and old cars. It's hilly and difficult to get around in, the office help were unkempt, indifferent and unhelpful. The pull-thru site we were directed to was only a few feet wider than our motor home. A picnic table that was falling apart was the only amenity, apart from the dead grass and dirt at our site. If we're ever in the area again, we'll save our money and either keep driving, or find a parking lot even closer to the railroad tracks than this horrible place was.

Nice spot on a cliff overlooking Lake Superior. It's right on the 2-lane highway going north out of town, and is a little noisy with traffic during the day, but was nicely quiet at night. Great people in the office, and there are people going around the grounds constantly making sure things are up to par. We could stay only 2 nights, but wished we could have stayed longer. Rating is lower than it could be only because our site didn't even approach being level, and we saw many other sites in the same condition.

This was a great find for us, as we hit eastern South Dakota at the height of the Sturgis motorcycle rally (first week of August), and couldn't find an RV site anywhere. With a map and the Trailer Life Directory, we found this little campground in Wasta, which is a tiny, tiny little town right on Highway 90. Our first impression wasn't great, as the trees are all small and new, and the grass was turning brown from the continuing drought. But we were directed into spacious and level pull-through site, and the owners delivered an empty garbage can right to our site for our use. The campground is within sight of the railroad tracks, but from inside our coach, we didn't hear a single train during the 4 days we were there. Everything in the campground is in good repair, and the small store, bathrooms and showers were spotless. The RV park is next to a motel, and campground guests are allowed use of the motel's pool, which is right across a small street from the campground. We gave this "no frills" campground a higher rating than some other full service campgrounds I could mention, primarily because of the owners. They were helpful, friendly, outgoing and seemed genuinely happy and willing to do anything they could to help us enjoy our stay. They run a small store on site with a rock shop that's worth a look. As far as we're concerned, good people make a good campground more than all the amenities in the world.

This is a terrific park with great amenities. A 55+ community with permanent park models and plenty of RV sites, located on the edge of open public lands. Peaceful, quiet and restful, we're definitely planning on going back. This is a Cal-Am Property, one of several in the area, and we checked out all of them. This is the one we selected to go back to next year. It's out in the eastern part of the Phoenix valley, but on a slight enough rise that you get a great night-time view of the city lights. Very helpful, friendly folks in the office, a large grocery store just across the highway, and everyone in the place seemed like old friends the moment you met them. Loved it, loved it, loved it!!

Very large resort, but the sites are very small -- too narrow to allow us to put out our awning. Not a speck of grass anywhere, just tons of very fine dust that puffs up at every step, and blows around in swirls at every passing car. Pool area looked nice, and it's probably an okay place for people with kids, but we won't be back. Folks at check-in were very nice and helpful but it wasn't enough to save us from the blowing dirt. Can't imagine what a quagmire the place must be if it ever rained!

We did a quick overnight here a few years back, and really liked it. Our latest experience, while okay, wasn't quite what we expected. We paid extra for a premium "peninsula" site, and they directed us to site #12. What they didn't tell us was that "Site #12" is actually 4 separate sites in one very small driveway that ends against the river. We were the first ones into our 4-site spot, which was fortunate, because we had do do a lot of jockeying around to get a 40-ft. motorhome in the area to begin with (and the office told us we'd have no trouble at all), and then to get within a reasonable distance to the hookups was another battle. The next person in to our "Site #12" was a pop-up camper, and he had to park so close to us that he very nearly had to park under our awning. Very late that night another rig pulled in so our $35 went to give us the privilege of parking closer to more people than if we had just taken a pull-thru site in the main part of the campground. Don't pay for a site on the "peninsula" unless you want to get really up close and personal with the other campers, and pay extra for the privilege of doing so. It's a nice enough park, but the peninsula sites were ridiculous.

Great little place that we found accidentally on our way to Texas in December '06, and stopped at again on our way home in January to avoid some nasty weather. The people there couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Sites are large and level, and the roads throughout the park are very wide and accommodating for big rigs with tow vehicles. They have a nice clubhouse with a covered patio. They're in town, but a block back from a main drag so we didn't experience any noise problems. I'd give it a 10 if it had a pool, but we weren't looking for a pool in 30 degree weather, anyway! We'll definitely be stopping in here again.

A terrific find, with wonderful, friendly folks in charge. Large level sites with lots of room between rigs. Each site has a grassy area, and ours had a great little cover over the picnic table. Situated outside of the crummy little town, out in the countryside, the peace and quiet was a welcome respite from traveling the highways. They have their own critters on site, including their own little wildlife zoo. Also, lots of wildlife walking by and passing through. Lots of activities to choose from: fishing, boat/canoe/paddleboat rentals, video rentals, croquet and bocce ball, nature trails, shuffleboard, horseshoes, book exchange -- just a delightful place all around. We'll definitely stop in again.

We have mixed feelings about this facility. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful, which alleviated some of the negative aspects of the place. It's less than a block away from a fire department station, so the siren noise as the trucks left the station got really annoying after 3 weeks. We were located right at the front of the park, in what they called the daily sites. These were very close together, but we did have a patch of grass outside the door. Other sites further back had only concrete and rocks. There are numerous folks living in this park, as evidenced by the piles of junk around their trailers and RV's. You wouldn't see the junky places unless you walked around to the back section of the park. We probably won't go back. We felt it was quite expensive for the small, tight sites, especially after we found a place a mile or so away with huge sites and big trees for much less.

Very large resort with lots of activities and amenities. We didn't get a chance to enjoy many of them because the weather was dreadful when we were there, but that's hardly the fault of the resort. Lots of park models and snowbirds in residence. The RV sites are on grass with a large concrete pad next to where you park. When it rains, though, you're parking in a big mud pit. The grass wasn't very level, and when we put blocks down under the levelers, they just shoved the 4" tall blocks down into the mud so far we couldn't retrieve them. Again, the weather isn't the fault of the resort, but we would have much preferred parking on the concrete pad. It's probably a great place for snowbirds in good weather.

One of those places we pulled in to because it was on the way, it was cheap, and it was in the Passport America book. When you pull into a place that charges only $16 a night, you pretty much get what you pay for. Hook-ups, but no amenities to speak of. They apparently had some fairly nice long-term sites down the hill and around the corner from where we were, but our site was just a patch of gravel and a tiny bit of grass. We tried to rinse the unbelievable road grime off the windshield of our tow car, and the owner was immediately at our site as some other "resident" had reported us. It seems you have to pay $2.00 to wash your car, and there's no differentiation between rinsing off your windshield and washing your whole rig.

Staying here is like being in a friendly little city, with lots of snowbird residents in park models, and numerous RV sites. It's a Cal-Am Property, with over 2,000 sites, so all sites are pretty close together. Our site was on the outside perimeter of the resort, backed up to the high cement wall that surrounds the entire property. That meant that our bedroom was only a few feet away from a 6-lane surface road, University Drive, which is very heavily traveled. I just couldn't take the noise but Cal-Am let us transfer to Canyon Vistas Resort out in the desert. If you can get a site that isn't up against that perimeter wall, it would be quite comfortable. Security is good, amenities and activities are terrific. The people in the office were good, but not as friendly and helpful as the folks at Canyon Vistas.

We found this delightful little place accidentally, as we drove around checking out the other RV resorts listed in the Trailer Life Directory. This place isn't listed there, but their flier indicates that they are listed in Woodalls and in Wheeler's TACO and ARVC. It's an older 55+ community with large grassy sites and lots if big trees and shade. The people were terrific and the whole park was lovely. They make no bones about the fact that they're an older resort, but we saw nothing run-down or in need of attention. Several permanent residents in park models, and lots of snowbirds staying there for months at a time, but no accumulations of junk or debris. The only thing that kept me from giving this a 10 was that it's just outside the entrance to the Naval Air Station, and the planes were noisy a couple times, but nothing near the frequency of the sirens from the fire station across the road from Colonia del Rey, just a mile or so away. When we go back to visit Navy family in Corpus Christi, we intend to stay here the entire time.

This is a horrible place! Mostly permanent residents in run-down old trailers with pieces falling off. Interior roads are in dreadful shape. About all that can be said for the sites is that they have hookups -- no grass, no live trees, nothing but lots of feral cats. The picnic table at our site had 3 of 4 legs. There may have been a pool behind the falling down fence, but we sure didn't check it out. Two sheriff's cars came in to one of the permanent residents' trailers the morning we were ready to leave -- most creepy. Then we found out that the store had been broken into and robbed the night we were there -- guess they checked out the residents first. We were too tired to go further, but if our experience can keep anyone else from staying at this truly awful place, then it's all to the good. (Oh, and the Arizona Tourist Information Center & Gift Shop that's right across the road? It apparently is open only when the people there feel like opening it, so don't be fooled by that sign on the freeway, either! The sheriff's deputy said he'd never seen it open!!)

This might be an okay place, but our experience was awful enough that we just drove away. We'd seen a big billboard for this place out on the freeway, and found it in Passport America. There were vacant sites to be had until I happened to mention Passport America to the rather unpleasant clerk. Suddenly, all he had were "dry" sites. When I asked what that meant, he said they were water and electric only. Since we were just pulling in for a quick overnight, I thought that would be okay. He didn't tell me that the "dry" sites weren't in the fenced RV park at all, but in a nasty little gravel parking lot behind the motel where they have 10 pull-thru sites. At least, that's what they called them. Our view was of the junk and trash in the backyards of two adjacent hovels, and the clientele we saw coming in and out of the motel next to us was enough to send us out of there in a hurry. We could see vacant sites in the RV park, so I don't know if this was just a way to rook Passport America folks or not, but we won't ever go back to this horrid place.

This is a real gem of a campground, located just 9 miles outside of Portland on Highway 224. It's a Clackamas County Park, one of 3 which have camping facilities. Barton has 2 separate campgrounds: one has been here for years and offers RV and tent camping, either on nicely maintained grass backed up to huge fir trees, or on dirt within some of those huge trees; the other is a new CG, with paved sites and is for RV's only. All sites have water and power hook-ups, and a dump station is at the park entrance. Both campgrounds have bathrooms and shower facilities. Since Portland seems to have a shortage of good RV places, this was a great find. Portland is only 10 minutes away, but you're in the country near the Clackamas River, with deer, quail, and a multitude of frogs in the 4 ponds in the upper campground. The mailing address of the park is in Boring, OR, but Barton is a tiny community which is several miles from Boring. Don't believe the directions in the Trailer Life Directory! Go to the website for correct directions. Rates are $12 Sunday through Thursday, and $16 on Friday and Saturday.

Great state park, off the beaten path but Portland is only about 14 miles away. Great sites located in tall timber. The only thing we didn't like about this park was the strange reservation system Oregon uses. The hosts don't know which sites are reserved until the day of the reservation. So, if you pull in and take an open spot, you may have to move the next day to accommodate a reservation. We had to move 3 times in 3 days, and decided to go elsewhere. (Barton Park is only 9 miles from Estacada.) The moral of this story is to not go to this park without advance reservations.

This is a lovely park with grassy sites situated among huge old growth fir trees. I was also very surprised to read the first review. This isn't a concrete resort, but a delightful little place within minutes of the entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. Saying it's "smack in the middle of town" is kind of silly, since the town of Packwood is so tiny. Don't know what the population is, but the whole town is 4 streets that cross Highway 12. And since the entire area is so remote, in such deep forest, it was comforting to be camped close to civilization, especially after we saw the 6 bull elk standing beside the highway just past the city limit sign. We also found the owners to be very friendly and helpful. The sites can be a little confusing, which is why the owner dropped what he was doing and led us to our site. He stayed to make sure we were happy with the site, which was fortunate, because our sewer hose wouldn't reach, and without batting an eye, he moved us to a site nearby which was perfect. The sites are confusing only because they left the huge old trees in place, and forests seldom grow in straight lines. As for having nothing to do, don't go to Packwood if you expect an amusement park feel. This is a laid back area in beautiful forest area, and if you can't find anything to do it's certainly not the fault of the RV park. We spent a day exploring Mt. Rainier (breathtaking views!), another day taking walks and bicycle rides, and another day recovering.

We found this to be a very lovely, well maintained park with easy access to the highway. Sites and streets are paved with grassy strips between. Lawns and grounds were very well kept. Pool is quite large if a bit removed from the camping area (which is a plus if you don't care for the noise from a pool area). The people in the office were great; helpful and very friendly. A terrific little green-belt campground after miles and miles of dry sagebrush and tumble-weeds. The only reason we didn't rate this a 10 is because the sites were just a wee bit too close together for our taste. I don't believe there was enough room for an awning to be completely deployed -- but, since pretty nasty winds seemed to be blowing at all times, maybe no one CAN put out their awnings!

Beautiful oasis in the puckerbrush of eastern Washington. Large level sights on grass with nice shade trees. There are some tent sites right on the river's edge, but the pull-thru sites are a few feet away from the river. We found the highway noise to be very minimal, and it didn't detract from the park for us in any way. With a swimming pool and/or hot tub, this would be a definite 10. The staff are absolutely terrific -- friendly, outgoing and helpful, and they obviously work hard to keep the park terrific. We happened across this park accidentally in our travels, and plan to stop here whenever we're in this area. It's always great to find such a gem off the beaten path a bit.

We've stayed here a couple times over the past 4 years when we stop to visit friends nearby on our way to Oregon. A few years ago it was great. This year, however, (2005) they raised the price to what we considered exorbitant for the area and for what you get ($36 for one full hook-up night). We didn't consider the driveway to be steep at all, just a slight hill. And there are no waterfront sites, although there are sites from which you can see the river. It's a short walk down a rocky path to actually get to the water. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, but we saw nothing to justify the large rate hike. The upper section is filled with permanent or semi-permanent residents, and the lower area was virtually empty. So why was the only other camper to pull in to the lower area given a site right next to ours, leaving the whole rest of the lower campground completely empty. Maybe it's just us but we prefer a modicum of privacy if space in the park permits.

Pretty bad. Dirt sites -- until it rained when everything became a huge sucking mud hole. Poorly maintained roads with huge potholes and mud puddles. The ONLY good thing about it is it's far enough off I-5 that road noise wasn't an issue. Way too expensive for such a lousy place.

We really liked this CG but can understand how others might not. It's only a mile off I-10 and slightly uphill from the freeway, so there is some road noise. It was so constant, though, that it was more like white noise. Unfortunately, however, immediately on the other side of I-10 is a set of double railroad tracks, and trains run pretty often. Apparently owing to atmospheric conditions or something, we didn't hear the trains at all for 4 nights but during part of the 5th night they sounded like they were within a hundred yards. Odd. CG roads and sites are paved, sites are very large and mostly level. This is in the desert, but the campground is right at the base of Picacho Peak, so there are lovely views. Hiking trails, group CG areas (a 12-site RV group area has electric and water), picnic and day use areas. Imagine summers are pretty toasty here, but in February it was gorgeous.

Okay for an overnight to get off I-10, but otherwise pretty lacking. It's a big gravel lot with big raised curbs between all the side-by-side sites. All hookups are in/on raised curb areas between each site. Sites are so close together that your door opens right out onto the curb where the next camper's hookups are. Very tight. Full hook-ups and cable were nice. Campground is only about a block off I-10, but the road noise from the freeway wasn't the problem. The problem was that right next door to the campground is a large truck stop, with the east-bound exit ramp to the CG and truck stop running right along the edge of the campground for the full length of the campground. East-bound truckers taking that exit (with jake brakes in full bellow), stopping at the stop sign, then starting up again to go to the truck stop was an incredible intrusion all night long. While awake we could barely hear the TV a lot of the time, and sleeping was accomplished only between trucks. The CG is obviously trying to provide a nice spot as all was very clean and well kept -- the truckers weren't the fault of the CG which is why we gave this a 5 rating instead of a 0.

We found this RV park to be a real gem. Had intended to stay at one of the resorts or state parks on Padre Island or Mustang Island, while visiting family at the Naval Station. But when the weather reports were for really lousy weather for our entire stay, we decided to stay on the beach another time, and picked this park mostly because it was just off the road we were traveling on. A bit of the neighborhood we drove through to get there appeared a bit rough, and we thought we'd possibly made a mistake -- until we arrived at this lovely, well maintained RV resort right on the bay. Large level sites with concrete pads and picnic tables. Sites are gravel with nice grass around each. Office personnel were delightful, friendly, helpful and very welcoming. We were led to our site by one of the workers in a golf cart, and she made sure we knew where all the hookups were, and where all the park amenities were located. There are some folks who apparently spend the winter here, but there are absolutely no junky "trailer park" rigs or sites. Don't understand how someone could give this CG a poor rating based on the weather -- our weather has been horrible, but the park is terrific! Will definitely be back! (And on top of all that, we ended up being about an hour closer to the Naval Station than if we'd gone to the barrier islands! Perfect!!)

An absolutely gorgeous state park. I agree with everything everyone's said, except the part about the gate -- the lady who checked us in was very explicit in her instructions on the gate, that it was not well lighted and to be sure to take a flashlight with you if you exit the park after dark. Perhaps other workers weren't as careful to notify campers of that inconvenience, but it was very clearly explained to us. (Funds to modernize and light the gate area had to be diverted to emergency repairs after one of the hurricanes.) All the workers were friendly, helpful and accommodating, with an overall attitude of making sure all guests had a great time and wanted to come back. We will definitely be back!

A beautiful, well maintained park. Large level sites on grass in the upper areas, more shaded sites on grass, dirt and gravel in the lower area which is closer to the Rainbow River. Area is very quiet, park personnel are extremely helpful and friendly. We chose this park because it's one of the relatively few Florida State Parks that allow pets, but i t was also one of the more enjoyable places we stayed. We will definitely stay here again.

We were directed to this delightful park by a good samaritan near a grocery store, when we stopped to get out of the horrible Miami traffic for a few minutes. We didn't have reservations, and every other Miami park we tried was full. We thought this would be a park of last resort, but enjoyed the park so much that we'll definitely be back. Pulled in about 9:00 pm, and were met by a very helpful security guy, who led us to our site and made sure all was okay before he left. Large level sites, well separated from neighbors. Whole park is large and level, which made for great walks and bike rides. Not far from Miami, Biscayne Bay, and one of the main Everglades visitors centers. Security patrols the park regularly, which is great as we discovered this is not necessarily a terrific section of Miami. But the park itself is lovely, and extremely well maintained, and the people could not be nicer. We'll definitely be back.

Gorgeous place, a bit off the beaten path but very much worth it if you like peace and quiet, serenity, and beautiful beaches within walking distance. Isolation comes from the fact that this is a barrier island -- you cross a lengthy bridge and drive through the town before reaching the park entrance station. From there, it's another 5+ miles to the campground entrance. Paved roads in the park and campground, with little traffic. Most sites are large, level, paved, and nicely separated from other sites. Walking trails are lovely and level, a great opportunity for spotting bald eagles, ospreys, and tons of other birds. CG hosts are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this terrific spot.

For an RV spot near a major freeway, you absolutely could not do any better than this. What a surprise! Large level paved sites, with full hookups. Sites seemed to have more than one sewer hookup, to accommodate both large motor homes, and smaller trailers or 5th wheels. Entire place was totally immaculate, and the people could not be nicer. Free continental breakfast (complete with waffles shaped like the state of Texas!) gives more opportunity to meet fellow campers. We did only a quick overnight, but wisheed we could have stayed longer! Given the Passport America discount of 50%, it just doesn't get any better than this!
